Hello Jake, welcome to footydom! The ‘Dragon’ with the OPUS rig uses a Bluebird BMS 380-MAX (see http://www.scalesailing.com/product.htm 2/3rds down the page).

The heading photo you referred to is a ‘Pond Sprite’ which has a flat deck. The hatch cover is a Pringles (TM) lid with a coaming made from two slightly differing sizes of plywood rings, very carefully cut to size. Rather hard to duplicate I’m afraid without some trial and error.

I make the sloop rigs myself and the rig for the K2 is available from the same page on our web site as above. The sails only (main and jib) cost $21.95 plus shipping.

Graham, I like the looks of the “Dragon” especially the Laser type rig! Guess I’d better finish my K2 and learn to sail so I have a valid excuse to buy a racing footy. I look forward to seeing this kit when it becomes availible. No, David must walk before you can run ….. great incentive for me I guess.

Great website! My daughter and I are building a footy together. What size servo did you use for sail control on the footy using the Opus rig? Also, on the opening page there is a picture of the kittywake with a circular hatch reminiscent of RC Laser– did you make these yourself or buy them at a supply house? Do you make your own sloop rig or buy them? If purchased, can you tell us where you bought both parts?

Dear Graham,

I read your webblog on the footies. I personally sail a US12, Soling one-meter and an RC Laser. On the cover page of your blog you have a picture of a footy that seems to have the same hatch as the RC Laser’s circular hatch cover. Do you make your own round hatch or do you buy them from a supply house? I would like to incorporate that kind of hatch into the Cobra Mark 2 footy that I am building from scratch from plans in Model Yachting issue 152.

Your Opus sail similar to the RC Laser is a great idea. Do you sell those? Do you sell jibs and mains or should I build my own?

RC sailboats are the most peaceful way to enjoy radio control boating. This way are also the hardest rc boats to master – with a nitro or electric model boat you can just open the throttle and blast round the lake.

Hi Tim,
the rig will initially be a part of the Dragon kit and will also be available as an almost ready to use rig for use on other designs. I have been ironing out a few construction wrinkles and I will be making it available very soon. Thank you for asking.
